Mexico: Restructure previous Telecom Regulator IFETEL with Two New Authorities

2025-08-15

On July 16, 2025, the Chamber of Deputies approved a new Telecommunications and Broadcasting Law, replacing the 2014 Federal Law. The new law officially took effect the next day, July 17. Mexico’s long-standing telecom regulator, IFETEL, will be dissolved and replaced by two new bodies:

-CRT (Telecommunications Regulatory Commission): A technical and independent agency in charge of licenses, concessions, and protecting consumers.

-ATDT (Agency for Digital Transformation and Telecommunications): A government office focused on telecom policy, digital infrastructure, and expanding internet access across the country.
