Colombia: CRC Expands and Updates Rules for Telecom Device Certification

2025-08-15

On June 18, 2025, Colombia Communications Regulation Commission (CRC) published Circular No. 162 of 2025, bringing several important updates to the country’s telecom equipment certification rules.  Key highlights: -Wider scope: The rules now cover not just mobile phones, but also fixed and satellite terminals. -New frequency bands: Devices must be compatible with newly assigned 2500 MHz and 3500 MHz bands, in line with global 5G deployments. -Updated standards: The technical standards table has been revised, and devices must meet SAR (electromagnetic exposure) limits and be compatible with networks according to 3GPP international norms. -Simplified process: The homologation (type approval) process is now more streamlined, with clearer documentation rules and defined roles for importers and manufacturers. -Transition rules: Devices submitted before 2016 can follow special transitional procedures. -Transparency: All approved equipment must be listed publicly, along with their technical specifications.   These updates aim to improve safety, ensure international compatibility, and support Colombia’s growing digital infrastructure. As Colombia moves forward with 5G and next-generation mobile services, manufacturers and telecom companies must ensure that their devices meet the updated certification criteria.
