Mexico: published IFT-017-2023 Technical Standard to replace IFT-008-2015

The Mexico Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones (IFT) has issued new regulation Disposición Técnica IFT-017-2023 setting the technical requirements for wireless LAN and digital modulation equipment operating in license-exempt frequency bands.The covered frequency ranges are: 5150–5250 MHz, 5250–5350 MHz, 5470–5600 MHz, 5650–5725 MHz, 5725–5850 MHz, and 5925–6425 MHz. This new standard was officially take effect on November 7, 2025, replacing the relevant sections and test methods of IFT-008-2015 that applied to the 5725–5850 MHz band for digital modulation and hybrid devices.   

Key points and transition arrangements: 

• Accredited laboratories and Certification Bodies (CBs) are now authorized to process applications under this new rule.  

• Applications initiated before the enforcement date will continue to follow the Type B or Type C homologation process.  

• Existing Type B and Type C certificates remain valid under their current terms: Normally valid for two years, but can gain indefinite validity if the certificate holder submits a Memoria Técnica (technical report) from an authorized perito within 90 days prior to expiration.  

• Once the regulation is in force, all new approvals for the listed bands must comply with the IFT-017-2023 testing requirements.
