BIS has decided to extend the Pilot Project for “Parallel Testing” for Mobile Phones beyond 30 June 2023 for a further six months (i.e. till 31 December 2023). Official notification can be accessed from below link:

It has to be noted that parallel testing and certification were initiated as a pilot project only for Mobile phones. However, applications received during the past six months were relatively low. Considering this, the BIS has decided to extend the pilot project with two more product categories added to the scope- 

1.Wireless headphones and earphones 

2.Tablet/Laptop/Notebook

Along with Mobile phones, the above-listed categories also have long-winded certification time due to prior BIS certification requirements on critical components like cell/battery/adaptor. With parallel testing, battery testing can be initiated as soon as the BIS-recognized test lab releases the cell report, and host product testing can be initiated as soon as the BIS-recognized lab releases the battery report without waiting for the registration of the battery. Hence, the total certification timeline can be reduced.
