Through an official announcement on the official page of the Ministry of Communication and Digital, a draft of minister regulation for the use of radio frequency band 2.6 GHz in Indonesia was published on 15 May 2025. Currently, a public consultation for the draft regulation is still underway. This draft regulation of frequency band 2.6 GHz is an Indonesia government’s effort to improve better internet access for the Indonesian people. The regulation outlines key provisions, including:
1. Determination of the use of the 2.6 GHz radio frequency band in the range of 2500-2690 MHz with TDD mode for mobile network implementation.
2. The right to use the 2.6 GHz radio frequency band is granted in the form of a radio frequency band permit (IPFR) with a national service area.
3. The right to IPFR holders in the 2.6 GHz radio frequency band to select technologies in accordance with IMT standards such as 4G/5G;
4. The obligation of IPFR holders in the 2.6 GHz radio frequency band to use telecommunication equipment and/or telecommunication devices that meet technical standards, pay BHP IPFR, and fulfill other obligations in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations
5. Coordination obligations to mitigate potential harmful interference.
