The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has officially published the Indian Standard IS/IEC 62368-1:2023, applicable to Audio/Video (AV) and Information & Communication Technology (ICT) equipment.

Key Highlights:

· This new standard is technically equivalent to the international IEC 62368-1:2018, Edition 3.0.

· It replaces IS 13252-1 and IS 616, combining the safety requirements for AV and ICT products under one globally harmonised framework.

· The goal is to ensure better safety, global alignment, and smoother market access for Indian manufacturers.

As of now, BIS has not issued the official implementation notification regarding:

· The effective date of the new standard

· Whether existing registrations need to transition

· Guidelines for new applications under IS/IEC 62368-1:2023
