Indonesia: DJID Enacts New SAR Radiation Limits for Phones and Tablets

2026-06-03

Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) has officially enacted Decree No. 197 of 2026, establishing new, mandatory SAR radiation limits for all mobile phones and tablets. The new rule took effect immediately from April 22, 2026, completely replacing Decree No. 177.

Key Requirements:

-Target Scope: Applies to all mobile phones and tablets used within 20 cm of the body with power over 20 mW.

-Global Alignment: Compliance testing must align with international frameworks (ICNIRP and IEC/IEEE 62209 standards).

-Tablet Exemption: Data-only tablets (no earpiece speaker for voice calls) are exempt from Head SAR testing.

-Testing Flexibility: Due to local lab capacity limits, a temporary lab declaration letter can be used for certification, valid until July 31, 2027.

Manufacturers and importers must instantly adopt these new testing criteria, as there is no transitional grace period for new device submissions.
